eBOATING FAQs

HOW IS eBOATING DIFFERENT?

This is one of our competitor's views on power yachts; "Eventually the noise of the traditional boat’s engine begins to annoy you. Your day becomes about getting to your destination and relaxing once you get there. On a sailing yacht, as soon as the engine goes off and you’re being blown along by the wind . . . you can visibly see everyone chill out in front of you. The journey to the secluded bay is as relaxing as the time you spend there. In fact, it is often said Sailing is about the journey, and Power Boating is about the destination".

The outdated approach to this issue is to provide power yachts with larger engines so that you can get to your destination quicker. Of course, this doesn't make your journey any more enjoyable, and it has a significant impact on the environment; increased noise levels from larger engines and significantly increased pollution as the larger engines consume more diesel.

We say "why can't you have both?" Why can't you have a boat that provides all of the benefits of a power yacht, with all of the silence of a sailing yacht?". With eBoating the answer is of course YES, you can have both, and you can make a significant contribution to helping our planet and the marine environment at the same time.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER BENEFITS WITH eBOATING?

Notwithstanding the fact that your astute investment is making a significant contribution to reducing emissions and safeguarding our planet, there are a significant number of additional benefits that eBoating provides;

  1. eBoating operates on an 'equity' model, which means that all shareholders own the boat, not eBoating. This means there is a capital return (typically 65%) to all shareholders when the term of the syndicate completes, typically after 5 years.

  2. eBoating has its own dedicated marina at The Spit, Mosman and at Bayview, Pittwater. That means great customer service every day!

  3. Boating is all about maximising your enjoyment, and sometimes you just don't want the hassle of driving back to the marina after an incredible day on the water. This is why eBoating provides a complimentary service where one of our teams will drive the boat back for you, as long as you're within a 5km radius of the marina!

  4. Complimentary training and familiarisation for your yacht.

  5. Regular events that provide our customers with news from the yachting world, in an informal setting and accompanied with complimentary drinks and canapes.

  6. We use carefully selected brands and yachts which are ideal for multiple owner use and which we believe will achieve the best resale values in five years’ time. Additionally, these yachts come with tried and tested engineering, perfected over a decade or longer. This means you can enjoy leading-edge technology without any of the issues associated with immature technology. All of our yachts also have comprehensive warranties designed to give you the ultimate peace of mind.

  7. Our offices are open seven days a week where your boat is berthed and have a team available for any assistance required with berthing or the boat’s administration and operation.

  8. We have on-water breakdown services on all of our yachts. However given that all hybrid yachts have ultimate redundancy, this is rarely required.

  9. Your yacht is always cleaned and prepared for your use before you arrive with the tanks full, fridge cold, hatches opened and batteries charged – simply walk on and sail off.

WHAT DOES MY MEMBERSHIP INCLUDE?

Your boat share entitles you to;

  1. 50 days boating per year (Monday thru Friday) for 'Weekday Only' Shareholders

  3. Unlimited standby days

Your monthly management fee includes;

The cost of fuel used is extra and is charged based on actual litres used. However, given that you've been astute enough to invest in a hybrid yacht, fuel costs are likely to be negligible!

DO YOU PROVIDE CONCIERGE SERVICES?

  1. Free parking

  3. Full or part skippered services for the duration of your trip

IS THE COST OF A SHARE IN A HYBRID YACHT HIGHER THAN A NORMAL POWER YACHT?

There is no getting away from the fact that the initial cost of each share is approximately 10% higher than a traditional diesel powered power yacht. This is because your hybrid yacht has two power systems, the electric motor and storage batteries as well as a traditional diesel engine for backup purposes or for those times when you really do need to get to your destination quickly. By default this provides each yacht with ultimate redundancy wherever you are.

However, at the end of the 5 year membership when each boat is sold to return the capital to each shareholder, you will find that resale values are typically 10-15% higher than traditional diesel powered power yachts. This is for two reasons; firstly you are selling an asset that has two power systems and customers pay are willing to pay a premium for that. Secondly the yacht will have spent much of its 5 year duration under electrical power, and the wear and tear on the diesel engine is significantly lower than a traditional 'diesel only' power yacht.

Which means that over the 5 year period of your ownership you are likely to be better off than a traditional boat share owner, especially when you also take into account the huge fuel savings you are likely to achieve every time you take your yacht out!

AM I ABLE TO SELL MY SHARE?

Absolutely. Your 'share' is a tradable asset which you are free to on-sell at any time to anyone for any price. Unlike other boat share companies we do not charge you any brokerage fees, as that's just plain greedy!

HOW LONG IS THE OWNERSHIP AGREEMENT?

The syndicate agreement runs for five years, at which point the boat is sold and the net proceeds are then returned to each owner according to the equity they hold. This has the benefit of giving you the best resale value before maintenance costs start to increase on the boat as it ages.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COSTS I NEED TO BE AWARE OF?

No, almost everything is included. The only additional costs to bear in mind are any insurance excess payments that may become due following a significant claim, standby use fees, and any contingency fund top ups in the unlikely event that they are needed.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DAMAGE THE YACHT?

Small issues are covered by the contingency fund set up for each yacht and is part of your monthly maintenance fees.

All of our yachts are fully insured, which means that in the unlikely event of more substantial damage where each owner is liable for any damage they cause to the boat, your liability is limited to an insurance excess of $2,000.

ARE ANY PETS ALLOWED ONBOARD?

Unfortunately not. As much as your dog might like to take a dip in the water from the back of the boat our focus is on maintaining each yacht in pristine condition for every shareholder.

HOW LONG DO MY 'PER DAY' BOOKINGS LAST FOR?

Pick up time is usually from 8.30 am onwards, and must be returned by 7 am the following morning. This means you are more than welcome to stay in the marina overnight and take full advantage of your yachting experience. We can even arrange to bring you fresh coffee and pastries in the morning!
